From seed to sandwich, the offerings at our Roadside Store and Cafe showcase the hard work of our teams behind the counter as well as the many hands that plant, tend, weed, and harvest back on the Farm. Menu items like the spring breakfast sandwich, which includes our farm-grown spinach, as well as a weekly summer vegetable stand, are a few of the ways our garden team and Roadside overlap and enhance one another's work.

To celebrate this energy of summer at Gould Farm, we want to highlight the many ways our Roadside Store and Cafe and garden teams collaborate – and how you can support and enjoy the fruits of their labors!

Garden team builds new veggie stand

This year, garden manager Mel Hochstetler is celebrating because the garden team is fully staffed and feeling more on top of garden chores than in seasons past. Mel has welcomed several short-term (10 weeks or less) volunteers to the team, which supports the busier workflow needs in the summer and harvest season, allowing for staffing to go back down in the quieter winter months.

Welcome to our summer garden volunteers!

One of the extra chores Mel and the team organize in the summer is a small farmer’s market at Roadside. Open each Thursday (starting after the July 4th weekend ending after Labor Day) from 10AM - 12PM, this market is the place to buy fresh veggies and herbs from Gould Farm. The vegetables for sale are the same as what we pack in our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) boxes, so if you’re not a member of our CSA, you can still access our produce this way.

Some of the regularly available produce includes lettuce, carrots, summer squash, eggplant, cabbage, bok choy, scallions, herbs, tomatoes, peppers (hot and sweet), kale, and Swiss chard. More seasonal things as they come along, like radishes, arugula, spinach, winter squash, broccoli and cauliflower are finishing up now, but will reappear in the fall.

The garden team has been busy designing and building a creative vegetable stand and they look forward to meeting you there!

And once the Roadside team gets ahold of these seasonal veggies, be sure to keep an eye on how they show up in the specials menu! Available right now are:

  • Farm Rhubarb Kimchi Breakfast Sandwich (featuring Farm rhubarb).

  • Spring Breakfast Sandwich (with farm spinach, pesto, and pickled ramps).

  • Turkish Eggs (featuring Farm asparagus and a farm-herb salsa verde).

We are all grateful to the garden and Roadside teams for keeping not only the Gould Farm community, but our neighbors and customers, well-fed!

Having recently celebrated two years since reopening, the Roadside team also invites

customers to browse the many grocery and gift items available for purchase in the store, including a new commemorative t-shirt created by Moho Designs!

While you are in, pick up Gould Farm cheese, made by our farm team and our well-loved herd of dairy cows. If you need a treat, consider a maple latte, the local favorite made with maple syrup produced by our forestry and grounds team. And of course, don’t forget the bread, available in a variety of flavors, made by our creative Harvest Barn bakery team.

We hope you include us in your summer plans and stop by our vegetable stand on Thursdays from 10AM - 12PM or at Roadside for breakfast or lunch, open Wednesday-Saturday from 7:30AM - 2:00PM.
