Every Wednesday, our community gathers in a wide circle to share appreciations—words of gratitude for a helping hand, a good meal, or care for the Farm. These moments are especially meaningful when a guest prepares to take their next step, whether to Fellside, O’Connell House, or another path. Recently, as Spencer prepared to move to Fellside, they shared an appreciation with the Farm community—and have graciously allowed us to share it with you, our extended Gould Farm family. (Names and identifying information have been altered.)

Farewell to Gould Farm by Spencer
Read at the end of his final community meeting at Gould Farm
When I first came to Gould Farm, I was, like most guests, struggling mentally. I was afraid that my symptoms would be that bad forever. However, I found myself surrounded on all sides by truly genuine and loving people. Like a balm to a burn, the community here soothed me greatly. With help from many people, staff and guests alike, I began to recollect my lost marbles.
With more time, more of my spirit and personality began to return to me. My fixation on my obsessions and the delusion that plagued me began to ease. And in their place came new interests. Writing, Dungeons and Dragons, Pickleball, and, of course, I rekindled my love for nature.
When I first chose to come to Gould Farm, I was worried it wouldn't be a good fit.
However, 3 years later, I can say with confidence that it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. If I had to put my experience here in 3 words, one for each full year, it would be "Life Changing Care"
If I could give one piece of advice to the newcomer, it would be this: make the most of your time in this place. Time here goes very quickly, and you will soon find yourself on the other end of your stay, so try to enjoy every possible facet of life at Gould Farm.
It's quite difficult to put into words just how much my time here and what this truly special place means to me. I've met so many amazing people.
One special appreciation I wanted to make was for someone who's been on my side since the day I got here years ago. She welcomed me to Gould Farm with kindness and warm support. Like a true friend, she always said what I needed to hear, even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear. This person helped me rediscover my love for amphibians and critters. She kindled my spirits.
My final formal appreciation for my time at the Farm goes to Amy Dillingham, my therapist.
