Gould Farm is a therapeutic community that promotes recovery for people with mental health and related challenges through meaningful work, community living, and clinical care.

People

  • We serve adults (“guests”) 18+ diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, major depression, and anxiety, including those with a history of substance use who are motivated for sobriety; 36 guests at a time at our first level of care.​

​

  • Average length of stay is 9-12 months.​

​

  • Our therapeutic community includes over 95 members who live and work together year-round and is made up of guests as well as staff and their family members.

Place

  • Situated on a 700-acre working farm in western Massachusetts.

​

  • Located within a 2.5-hour drive of NYC and Boston.

​

  • Guest facilities consist of three houses, each with single bedrooms and shared baths.

​

  • Facilities include 10 miles of private hiking trails and a 7,000 sq. ft. community center that includes a fitness facility, music room, art room, and gymnasium.

Program

  • Therapeutic work program provides 26 hours of engaging work per week. Work teams include campus crew, kitchen, maintenance, garden, farm, bakery, and cafe.

​

  • Work program promotes teamwork, self-confidence, and the development of transferable skills, fostering a sense of competence in our guests.

​

  • Experienced team of psychiatrists, licensed therapists, and nursing staff provide comprehensive clinical support.

​

  • Full continuum of care with transition programs in the Berkshires and Boston area, enabling guests to maintain their program connections while making strides toward greater independence.

What are the fees associated with care at Gould Farm?

As of February 2026 (please check with Admissions for the latest rates):

​

Residential Program in Monterey, MA: $500 per day.
​

Residential Transition Programs in Monterey and Medford, MA: $268 per day

​

Non-Residential Support Program: $1,504 per month

 

Extended Community Program: $731 per month


Financial assistance to eligible families. Program fee is seldom covered by health insurance. Our transition programs accept direct admissions when clinically appropriate.

Transition Programs

Gould Farm is committed to providing a smooth and supported transition for
individuals as they move from our main residential level of care to a more independent one. Our comprehensive transition programs in both Monterey
and Boston are designed to help guests retain and practice the skills gained
during their time at the Farm.

Supports

  • Each guest is assigned a clinician who works with them to develop a personalized plan.

​

  • Our structured program includes 30 hours per week of engaging activities, such as school, volunteering, employment, and wellness programs.

​

  • Assistance in developing skills such as time management, organization, cooking, nutrition, exercise, medication management, budgeting, and navigating public transportation.

​

  • Weekly meetings with a clinician or case manager.

​

  • In case of emergencies, 24-hour on-call support available.

​

  • Guests are encouraged to develop a sense of community; we offer evening meals and activities to promote social interaction.

​

  • Weekly house meetings ensure that everyone is on the same page and addressing any concerns that may arise.

​

  • Family check-ins and meetings available for our guests’ families to stay informed and involved in their loved one’s progress.

​

  • Guests reside in private rooms with shared baths.
