Melanie Brandston – Development Director

Melanie came to Gould Farm in early 2017. She has over 30 years-experience in nonprofit management and development. Melanie has enjoyed a rewarding career as a senior development executive or capital campaign consultant to 46-local, national and international nonprofit organizations. While Melanie came to Gould Farm having already conducted five capital campaigns, she couldn’t be more excited than she is now with her role as coordinator of the Farm’s first capital campaign, the Harvesting Hope Capital Campaign for the Red Barn Community Center.

Melanie was adjunct faculty at Skidmore College when fate brought Gould Farm into her life. She recalls when she visited the Farm for a job interview. “I walked onto the campus and within 5-minutes said to myself, ‘I can’t think of an organization that deserves $2+ million in philanthropic funding for a community center more than the people and the community that is Gould Farm. Let’s get to work!”’ Since then, Melanie has handled all aspects of the planning, preparation and now implementation of the $2+ million capital campaign. Her family’s history with mental illness fuels her dedication to the Farm, its people and its dedication to the guests and their journey to recovery.

A graduate of Colgate University, in 2015 Melanie earned her Master’s in nonprofit organizational culture from Skidmore College. Melanie and her husband, Howard, and Springer Spaniel, Penny, live on a non-working farm in Hollowville New York’s Upper Hudson Valley.
