The Programs

Licensed by the state of Massachusetts, Gould Farm’s psychosocial sub-acute treatment program promotes hope, autonomy and empowerment for the guests who come for care.

This strengths-based model integrates clinical supports with the daily structure of work and community life. Counseling, a balanced work program and the development of vocational, educational and social skills are primary program components. Guests, staff and volunteers work side-by-side to develop treatment plans, set goals and discover ways to successfully realize them. The cognitive challenges of the work, the opportunity to engage with people of many ages and levels of experience, and the chance to learn alongside people who are passionate about their work, are all part of the guest experience. Some work days (6 hours) may include meetings with clinical staff, the entire community (morning meeting attendance is required), support groups, work team members and the Transition Counselor. Planning meetings devoted to the individual's progress and goal setting are regularly scheduled and can include representation from many areas of the community.

Through participation in community life, meaningful work and with clinical and community support, guests gain insight about themselves and their illness. They learn the importance of work and developing relationships with others. In this environment, they can safely stretch their tolerance levels, enhance their cognitive skills, and address challenges they may never have dreamed they would encounter. These experiences and the sense of accomplishment they bring, can be useful in making successful choices in work and living situations beyond Gould Farm.
