Boston Area Program

 

Reporting to the Assistant Program Manager of the Boston Program, this position is responsible to work directly with guests who come for care and are part of the transitional program treatment model for our community-based program supporting adults with mental illness on their journey toward recovery and greater independence. Volunteers contribute to the community in ways that utilize their individual strengths and talents, helping out with housekeeping, meal preparation and cooking, gardening, program development, maintenance, recreation, administration support and computer work.  Individual must be willing to promote the values and spirit of Gould Farm, to actively participate as a member of the community at meals and other gatherings; to maintain open and honest communications with other staff members; and to promote the safety and well-being of all community members.

 

Specific job duties include, but are not limited to:

 

·         Assist in providing leadership and support to the work program, working a rotating 40 hour workweek to include 1-2 asleep overnight shifts.

·         Ensure that all guests receive optimal quality of care and support.

·         Provide effective coverage of the day-to-day program operations, monitoring that residents took their medications, and crises intervention

·         Attend and participate at scheduled meetings and training

·         Facilitate meal preparation several evenings a week.

·         Monitor the general appearance of the house and encourage residents to maintain a clean and orderly environment.  Assist individuals with chores as needed.

·         Provide support to residents with navigating public transportation and accompanying them to appointments on occasion.

·         Organize and lead group activities such as game night, yoga, etc.

·         Provide support and encouragement to program participants with obtaining information from the internet to support their progress with achieving their goals.

·         Maintain accurate and timely daily log notes during assigned work shifts.

·         Participate and contribute to the community in ways that bring out individual talents and strengths (gardening, arts ‘n crafts, cooking, music, etc)

 

Qualifications:  BS in psychology, or any of the human services related fields desired.  Experience in a leadership role desirable.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Patience and a sense of humor a plus!

 

Benefits and Stipend:  Volunteers who commit to a one-year assignment receive room and board, medical insurance, and a stipend of $192.31/bi-wkly ($5000/year). Eligible for AmeriCorps educational award upon completion.
