A day at the farm – daily schedule
At Gould Farm, structured work, involvement in a community focused on healing, medication management and therapy give residents the sense of belonging and well-being they need to heal. Our integrated approach supports connection to others, to the land, a dependable daily structure and opportunities to experience success. Weekends are less structured and often include off-campus trips to the movies, recreation and local religious services.
7:30 am Breakfast
Staff and Guests sit down together to enjoy a healthy breakfast featuring our own farm fresh eggs, milk and bagels made in the Harvest Barn.
8:00 am Morning Meeting
At morning meeting, the community gathers to learn about the day’s activities, meet new members of the community, and share the latest weather, sports and “critter sightings”. We end each meeting with an inspirational quote and a song.
9:00 am Work Program
Whether it’s collecting eggs, preparing meals or clearing trails, working on various teams inspires a sense of dignity, self-worth and pride in doing for oneself and others—important prerequisites for healing and rehabilitation. The social interaction, exercise and skill building of the work program play an important role in a guest’s move toward independence.
11:00 am Wellness and Group Activities
This time brings the community together to enjoy activities that promote fitness and exercise, nutrition and diet, mind body connections, recovery support, life skills and transition services.
12:00 pm Lunch
Everyone gathers for a nutritious lunch and midday break.
1:00 pm Work Program
We resume our various work team activities until 3:30 pm. Whether it’s feeding animals, collecting eggs, and making cheese on the Farm Team, or maintaining trails and tapping trees to make maple syrup on Forest and Grounds, or planting and harvesting produce on the Garden Team, preparing meals on the Kitchen Team, baking bread at the Harvest Barn or flipping pancakes at our Roadside Store and Café…there is always work to be done at Gould Farm.
4:00 pm Tea Time
Each day the community gathers for tea and snacks to talk about the day and enjoy one another’s company.
6:00 pm Dinner
Whether it’s family-style dinner in the dining room, a picnic at Benedict Pond, or wood fired oven Pizza Friday, the meals served are always prepared featuring the food we grow and raise on the farm, with an eye towards optimizing health for all in the community.
7:00 pm Recreation and relaxation
There is always something going on in the evenings, whether it’s a trip to the community center for a swim or to the town library; relaxing in the living room with a book or board game; or a game of “broom ball” on the frozen pond, Gould Farmers know how to work hard and have fun too!
